Grrr Have purchased Mass Effect 2 - which is apparently very good - I wouldn't know can't get the bugger to run
First I couldn't get past the first loading screen... and 'unnoficial' patch fixed that but now the video stutters and the fps is so slow it makes the game pretty much unplayable... My setup isn't exactly awe inspiring but shoudl be able to run this (AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3500+, NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT, 3 Gigs of RAM).
However, I hasten to add, your CPU may not be up to the task of running the game. I found some information here about the min and recommended specs:
PC MINIMUM System Requirements OS = Windows XP SP3 / Windows Vista SP1 / Windows 7 Processor = 1.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or equivalent AMD CPU Memory = 1 GB RAM for Windows XP / 2 GB RAM for Windows Vista and Windows 7 Hard Drive = 15 GB DVD ROM = 1x Speed Sound Card = DirectX 9.0c compatible Direct X = DirectX 9.0c August 2008 (included) Input = Keyboard / Mouse Video Card = 256 MB (with Pixel Shader 3.0 support). Supported Chipsets: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 or greater; ATI Radeon X1600 Pro or greater. Please note that NVIDIA GeForce 7300, 8100, 8200, 8300, 8400, and 9300; ATI Radeon HD3200, and HD4350 are below minimum system requirements. Updates to your video and sound card drivers may be required. Intel and S3 video cards are not officially supported in Mass Effect 2.
PC RECOMMENDED System Requirements Windows XP SP3 / Windows Vista SP1 / Windows 7 2.6+ GHz Cure 2 Duo Intel or equivalent AMD CPU 2 GB RAM ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT, NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT, or better recommended 100% DirectX compatible sound card and drivers DirectX August 2008
A dual core AMD CPU are the X2 variants of your processor you listed. - I am erring on this fact as perhaps being the root of it - but try the above first before writing it off.
I have no clue as to why it won't work for you Liana but I can tell you that it's really good, am on my 3rd run through it now lol. This time I'm always picking the "renegade" answer in all conversations .
Oh FFS! Ok whilst waiting for my computer upgrade, I gave in and bought the XBox version.... And guess what on my 32 inch TV I can still barely read the subtitles / text menus...
So, the game retails at £30 to £40... You just then have to purchase either a quad core processor or and HDTV... *arrrrrgh*

That cant be right Li... text blurred, on any TV indicates one of a few things either a) the TV is that old and on its way out but even still, an old TV that is in good working order should still give you readable menus and text, b) Using an antiquated input or poor signal as a result of this or connector fault c) the TV/XBOX is set to to an input/output is of incorrect type or refresh rate that is not compatible or out of range/sync (I know this is most likely, as I used to have the same troubles with older consoles on non HDTVs (before HD existed) - though less likely to be out of range or sync as if so you would get no image and on most TVs it would indicate this on screen...sometimes).
Worse still there are no plans for a patch... So my own 'patch' is to go buy the flaming cables to attach my Xbox to my PC Monitor and PC speaker system...
This damn game has cost me the best part of £100 already lol, it had better be worth it!
Thanks for all you advise guys... And *raspberries* to you guys with plasma TVs!
When a cat is dropped, it always lands on its feet, and when toast is dropped, it always lands with the buttered side facing down. I propose to strap buttered toast to the back of a cat; the two will hover, spinning inches above the ground. Thus creating the next form of high speed transport.
