So it turns out that Sony has a massive problem with the PS3, seems to be a version problem as all the slim versions don't have the issue.

When I turned on my PS3 I got an error message (8001050F) and I googled it since nothing I did made it work and I came upon this thread:

It turns out that all PS3s from Australia to the Middle East to the US are having these problems. Normally I wouldn't think it's a big issue, except for the fact that the achievement system in PS3 needs to sync with the server for a trophy update when you launch some games, and since it's unable to sync it shuts down the game and appears to delete the already gathered trophies.

It's rumored to be due to a date error since most systems appear to reset to 1/1 2000.. I wonder what's special about Feb 28th

Some also say that it's due to Sony having launched a redesigned PS3 website during the weekend.. but I doubt that since people who have never even connected their PS3 to the internet are having these problems.

For now all they can do is follow Sony PS twitter http://twitter.com/sonyplaystation and hope they come up witha solution

You say people who have never connected to the internet also have the issue...
I'm not sure how much you know about it... but won't that mean to fix it everyone would need to connect their ps3 to the internet?
As I see no other way of sending out a fix to every ps3...


I'm too scared to turn mine on now... not that I ever turn it on anyway.

If you were wondering why I was asking... its because I'm too lazy to connect my ps3 to the internet. I have no interest in playing online games on my ps3... so I don't really want to have to mess around doing that. (Yep I know its like 10 minutes of my life... but I'm lazy and there isn't enough time in the day).

Indeed, I quite agree. The easiest way would by far be to connect the PS3 to the internet in order to get the fix, however it is likely that they'll release it standalone and downloadable through a browser on computer and then you can just put it on a USB stick and put it in the PS3, it should work as you can choose to apply normal updates to the PS3 through media storage.

Aside from that, Sony also recommends that you do not turn on your PS3 or at least don't try to play any games until the problem is fixed as doing might completely delete your trophy collection and possibly other things connected to the game.



It does appear to be y2k problem of sorts Apparently the console thought it was leap year because it's an even year, but it's obviously not (How hard is it to instruct a machine that 2010 is not evenly divisible by 4..)

Still, internet nerd-rage over these things always makes me chuckle "Bad Company 2 comes out tomorrow, I can't not switch my PS3 on!". The sad thing is, you get the impression it's not even kids saying these things but fully grown men crying into their drinks over not being able to play their consoles.

(Yeah, says me who ends up spending time pacing around the flat aimlessly when our internet's not working for a few hours.......)

It's fixed now - the problem mysteriously solved itself when the PS3s didn't think it was the 29th of February anymore...

so its safe now i can turn on my ps3 with out worry ?

Yep, it's completely safe. I even regained the trophies I thought gone.

Don't know what happened.. wasn't anything to download, it just worked again all of a sudden... You might need to update the date and time but else it's fine.


Good thing it's before FF I would've hated that as well
